You can’t build a company alone, you need a team

Da Haven is a marketplace where people can buy and sell African manufactured pieces

Please introduce yourself and your start-up Da Haven to our readers!
I’m Omowunmi Ayeni and the Founder of Da Haven. Da Haven is an online and offline platform where people can buy and sell African fashion and home designs. The name Haven signifies a safe place and Da Haven is that safe place for quality and affordable African manufactured pieces. We are creating a community of Afro-centric products.
How did you get the idea to Da Haven?
Da Haven was founded to solve a practical problem of absence of an online and offline store for Afro-centric products. Also, there is a practical problem of how Africa is viewed. Africa is a beautiful place with rich cultural heritage and creative people. We want to show the world the real story of Africa through products. We are not just a business, we are a movement.
How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?
One of the challenges is selling the vision and getting the right team. Another is funding.
Da Haven African manufactured AfricaWho is your target audience?
Our target audience are Africans in diaspora who do not easily have access to African products where they are. Also, we are targeting all males and Females in any part of the world who loves and appreciates African manufactured products.
What is the USP of your start-up?
Value for your money, Effective delivery, Varieties of African manufactured products, and affordability.
Can you describe a typical workday of you?
My mind works 24 hours a day and it’s almost the same for many startup founders. I wake up early to pray and then work, do chores, go to the office to continue working, when i take a break at noon, my mind is still working. I dream, eat, and sleep the vision for the company. I work on weekends most times.
Where do you see yourself and your start-up Da Haven in five years?
I see Da Haven meeting the needs of millions of buyers and helping thousands of African product sellers reach a wider market. I see Da Haven widely known and represented in all cities in Africa and then the world..
What 3 tips would you give other Startup founders on the way?
1) You have to be really passionate about the idea. Once you are passionate about the idea, then execute it. “ You dont have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”- Martin Luther King, Jr.
2) You can’t build a company alone, you need a team.
3) Understand your target market well.
